Barcelona holding midfielder Alex Song is unhappy with how he is being treated at the Camp Nou, his cousin and former Liverpool man Rigobert Song has claimed, adding that spending time on the bench was not what he signed up for.

The Cameroon international ended his seven-year stint at Arsenal last summer when he transferred to the Catalan giants for a fee of €19M, more than four times his value when he joined the Gunners from French side Bastia back in 2005.

Since his move to Barcelona, Song has only clocked up 15 league appearances for the club, three coming from the bench. In his time on the pitch, the midfielder has only managed to score one goal, one he acquired when Barcelona hosted Real Zaragoza in November.

"I know breaking through the first team is a tough thing to do at Barcelona“, Rigobert Song told Calcio Mercato.

“But this season all [Alex] did was to sit on the bench and be a substitute. That makes him feel really bad.”

The former Liverpool player added that Barcelona should not have put so much effort into signing his cousin if they were planning to just relegate him to the bench.

“Barcelona put much effort in signing him last summer as Alex refused to sign with them.

"He was happy at Arsenal. He was a leader [there] on and off the field”, Rigobert Song added.
