The agent of Lazio defender Modibo Diakite has opened the door to his client moving to a club other than Napoli.

The Azzurri have been leading the chase for the French centre-back, ahead of English Premier League side Liverpool, despite Diakite’s agent claiming that the Reds were in pole position for the 26-year-old earlier this year.

Now though Napoli are stalling on completing the deal, leaving Diakite’s agent insisting he has a duty to search elsewhere for his client, opening the door to Liverpool once again taking centre stage.

"On the financial side and on the side of our availability, there are no problems, but probably at the club there is no certainty about concluding the move, so we are in the waiting stage", Ulisse Savini told Radio CRC.

"We are willing to move to the Azzurri, but I have a moral obligation to look around.

"Napoli told me they have to solve some situations within the club, but if a player is good, they are good, regardless of who sits on the Azzurri bench.

"The door to Napoli will only close once we reach an agreement with another club however."

Diakite joined Lazio in 2006, making the move from fellow Italian outfit Pescara.

He has been frozen out of the Rome side’s ranks this season due to a contractual dispute; the Frenchman has refused to extend his contract, which is due to expire in the summer.
