London giants Arsenal have once again renewed their chase for Barcelona’s out-of-favour striker David Villa, according to Tutto Mercato.

Villa has not been Tito Vilanova’s main choice up front this season, with the Argentine Lionel Messi and even enigmatic forward Cristian Tello above him in the pecking order. Despite a relative lack of game time, the Spanish international has still managed to score 14 goals and tally seven assists in 37 matches in all competitions.

Villa’s ability to shine with minimal opportunity will surely have made suitors Arsenal all the more hungry to acquire his services. Indeed, the Gunners made an offer for the striker during the January transfer window, but Barcelona played hardball and slapped a €20M price tag on Villa.

The Barcelona forward himself decided to consider a stay at Camp Nou after a tumultuous start with the club in the current campaign. But with the 2014 World Cup looming ever so closer, he may have to move for more first team football.

Arsenal are prepared to dish out €12M to enable Villa’s move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and at that price, Barcelona might just cash in.

Villa’s contract with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
