Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is plotting a sensational summer raid on French giants Lyon for two of their most promising talents.

According to French magazine Le 10 Sport, Wenger is lining up a move for Maxime Gonalons and Clement Grenier, with a bid of €20M believed to be being readied by the Gunners to ensure Les Gones cannot refuse to play ball.

Both Gonalons and Grenier are midfielders and the heartbeat of Lyon’s engine room. Each have really begun to power Remi Garde’s men this season, making a mockery of the high-profile departures the club have had to endure to balance the books.

Grenier, 22 years old, has won five caps for France’s Under-21 side. The schemer is a product of Lyon’s prestigious youth academy.

Gonalons, 24 years old and another Lyon youth product, is further advanced in his international career, having broken through to Les Bleus’ senior side, with six caps to date.

While Lyon will be keen to keep hold of the pair, their financial situation makes them vulnerable, as Arsenal boss Wenger appreciates.

A €20M offer is likely to be difficult for Les Gones to refuse and could see both Grenier and Gonalons land at the Emirates Stadium in good time for the start of the 2013/14 campaign.
