Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is expecting a ferocious game when England take on the Republic of Ireland at Wembley tomorrow in a friendly match.

The Three Lions also take on Brazil at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

Johnson, who has made the cut in the 22-man squad for the upcoming friendlies along with Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker, and Manchester United utility player Phil Jones, has insisted that the game against Giovanni Trapattoni’s men will not be much of a friendly.

"Any team that plays England at Wembley always wants to go away with a win so I don’t think it will be much of a friendly”, the 28-year-old told FA TV.

"We know the majority of their [Ireland] players anyway so I’m sure it will be a ferocious game.”

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, who has also made the cut in the 22-man squad, is keen on the trip to Brazil following their game at Wembley, and he has also insisted the friendlies are a good platform for the players to prove their worth.

"It’s a trip that a lot of the lads are looking forward to”, the 22-year-old said.

"These games don’t come around too often and to play Republic Of Ireland at Wembley is going to be a really good stage for us to show what we can do.

"And then to go to Brazil and play in the Maracana is something that all of the lads are really looking forward to.”
