Rubin Kazan are eyeing a high-profile bid for former Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez, to boost their attacking prowess.

A graduate of River Plate, Lopez has been plying his trade with Serie A outfit Sampdoria this season, making 17 league appearances and scoring four goals.

His time at Sampdoria has been limited by injury, and while he does boast experience at Barcelona, he struggled to make the first team.

His journey from Barcelona took him to Mallorca, Gremio in Brazil, the now-defunct FK Moscow, and Catania. He managed a brief loan spell at AC Milan, before returning to Catania and then on to Sampdoria.

While Rubin Kazan appear interested in securing his services for the new season, after narrowly missing European competition, his agent Andrea D’Amico remains coy over his future.

D’Amico told Russian daily Izvestia: "Maxi is a well known football player and there is constant interest in him. But at the moment I cannot give you any comment regarding his future.

"At this time, the main task for him is to return to his old form. Last season Lopez spent time with Sampdoria and he liked it very much.

"If Maxi remains at the club, then this is will be the best decision for us, but right now anything is possible."
