Marseille have made a move to take Gervinho on a season-long loan from Arsenal, according to Le 10 Sport.

The Ligue 1 outfit have offered to pay a portion of the Ivorian’s salary for the period of the loan, although it remains unlikely that the Gunners will agree to the deal on the table.

At Marseille money is tight this summer, but coach Elie Baup still wants to strengthen a side which managed to finish second in Ligue 1 last season, securing Champions League football.

Bagging Gervinho would be a real boost for Baup, who has seen himself priced out of the race for Montpellier’s Remy Cabella.

Ironically, Arsenal themselves could move to sign Cabella, a deal which would further relegate Gervinho to the sidelines.

The 26-year-old joined Arsenal in the summer of 2011 from French outfit Lille.

His contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to run until 2015.
