Ruhr giants Schalke are tipped to be pondering a loan deal for young Barcelona forward Cristian Tello, according to Voetbal Primeur.

Tello’s future at Camp Nou was thrown into further doubt after the arrival of Brazilian sensation Neymar, which would put Tello behind one more player in the long pecking order of forwards.

The 21-year-old made a total of 34 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring eight goals and notching six assists for Barcelona during the recently-concluded 2012/13 season.

With that, Schalke are hoping for a smooth, quickly-done deal for Tello, aiming to loan him for a full season and bringing him to the Veltins Arena to play alongside the likes of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Teemu Pukki.

Kongsblauen general manager Horst Heldt, however, has remained coy on such talk, saying: "In such cases we should always look sharp. Indeed, we succeeded in pushing a deal through with Raul and [Ibrahim Afellay]."

Schalke, should they pursue their chase for Tello, may find themselves entrenched in a bidding war with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, who have been fiercely linked with a swoop for Tello in recent weeks.

Tello has a contract with Barcelona that locks him down at the Camp Nou until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
