Manchester United could attract young defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy to Old Trafford, taking advantage of the player’s contract having come to an end at Monaco.

The 20-year-old, who earned much praise for his performances in this summer’s recently concluded Toulon Tournament, may well visit the English champions’ training facilities soon, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

The Red Devils are attentive to Mendy’s abilities and the starlet had promised to reveal his destination at the end of the tournament, a competition in which France finished third.

He is keeping mum for now though.

"I agreed with the club and I am not going to say anything until after the holidays", Mendy said, keeping the guessing game over his new side going a little longer.

A product of Monaco’s youth set-up, Mendy’s talent has long been signposted and the player tipped for the top.

Indeed, Mendy has featured for France consistently on the international scene, appearing at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and now Under-21 level.
