Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez has given his backing to a potential swoop by the Catalan giants for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

The Blaugrana are hunting a new number 1 following the bombshell dropped by Victor Valdes earlier this season that he does not intend to renew his contract at the Camp Nou.

Valdes’ current contract expires in the summer of 2014, but he could move on before the 2013/14 campaign kicks off.

Reina, a former Barcelona goalkeeper, has been linked with making a return to the Camp Nou, even if he has insisted in recent days that he sees his continued future at Liverpool

And for Pedro, the ex-Villarreal shot-stopper would be a good choice indeed.

"Pepe Reina would be a good replacement for Valdes", he said at a press conference, via El Mundo Deportivo.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona will bid for Reina, but there is growing support for a swoop in many corners.
