Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has appeared to close the door on a summer switch for striker David Villa.

The Spain international has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou, especially with the 2014 World Cup on the horizon and regular playing time at the forefront of his mind.

England has been floated as a potential destination, with Arsenal known to have held an interest recently, while Tottenham Hotspur are another team keen on the hitman.

But Barcelona supremo Rosell has indicated that the club wish to keep Villa into next year, scuppering any thoughts of a move.

Addressing reporters, Rosell covered Villa’s situation by saying "Until is otherwise the case, David Villa remains a Barca player and our desire is that he will remain so until next year."

Villa’s Barcelona contract is due to expire in the summer of 2014 and it remains to be seen if a substantial offer will change Rosell’s view.

The 31-year-old featured 28 times in La Liga for Barcelona last season, finding the back of the net on ten occasions.

However, he only started in 17 of those games.
