While many have chosen the word "surprised" among the emotions they have felt when seeing the evergreen Ryan Giggs still pull off great performances on the pitch despite his age, Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham is saying otherwise.

Red Devils icon Sheringham holds the record of being the oldest active outfield player in England, playing professional football until he was 42 years of age, with now-League One side Colchester United.

And while Giggs still has to play until the 2014/15 season in order to beat Sheringham’s tally, Sheringham believes the 39-year-old Welshman has what it takes.

"I hold the record for an outfield player but Giggsy has still got a couple of years left in him", Sheringham told Manchester United’s official site.

"I think he would have to play another season on top of next year [to beat my record].

"You have to be that build – I didn’t carry a lot of fat when I was playing and he definitely doesn’t. He’s kept himself in good shape", the former Red Devils striker added.

Giggs, 39, has a contract with the Old Trafford outfit until the end of next season.
