Sunderland are considering signing BATE Borisov defender Maksim Bordachev, according to Championat.

The 26-year-old is emerging as a serious option for Paulo Di Canio’s men, who are pushing to sign a left-back this summer.

At present Bordachev appears to be a backup option, with Sunderland keener on Tigre defender Lucas Orban.

However, the Black Cats are not impressed with Orban’s financial demands, nor those of his agent, who is thought to be demanding significant commission.

And that could cause the Premier League side to switch their attention firmly to Bordachev.

The defender has won 23 caps at international level with Belarus.

He joined BATE Borisov in 2009 and is under contract with the side until 2015.

Sunderland are expected to make a decision on a potential swoop over the coming days.
