Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes that Iago Aspas will fit into the club’s free flowing style of football being developed under manager Brendan Rodgers.

25-year-old Aspas has been signed from La Liga side Celta Vigo and Rush believes that the Spaniard is an exciting addition to the squad.

Rush hopes that Aspas follows the path of other Spanish players like Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia, who obtained cult status among the Kop faithful.

He told the club’s official site, "It’s a very exciting addition to the squad.

"He comes from Spain so he’ll know what to expect. It will be different playing in the Premier League but the football Liverpool play will most probably suit him.

"We like to pass the ball around and hopefully he will take the chances. He will be given chances and let’s hope he can take them because he does look a fine prospect.

"He has a proven record in Spain and I just believe the football Liverpool play, and they try to play total football, will suit him.

"We have had some great players come to Liverpool from Spain and hopefully he will be another one."

Aspas scored 12 goals in 34 La Liga appearances for Celta Vigo to help keep them up last season and is confident he can be a success with the Reds.

Rush also pointed out the importance of acquiring transfer targets before pre-season as it gives the manager more time to work with the squad and also helps in building up team spirit.

"I think it’s important to try and do the business early to give Brendan the chance to work with the team in pre-season.

"Sometimes if you get someone at the end of the pre-season it’s harder for the manager, so if you can get the business done early and Brendan can work with them early that will be better for team spirit as well."

The former Wales international is Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer with 346 goals to his name.
