Tottenham Hotspur technical director Franco Baldini is ready to score big points with the club’s fans by making a move for Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool-target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to Sky Italia.

Spurs are already in hot pursuit of Brazilian Paulinho from Corinthians, with a bid on the table, and the London club have taken a liking for wantaway Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Mkhitaryan too.

The Ukrainian league’s leading scorer has also been chased by Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Anzhi Makhachkala, with the Russian giants making the highest bid of €35m so far.

Mkhitaryan’s release clause stands at €23m, while his club director Sergei Palkin has valued the player at €30m.

It is understood that Baldini is in close contact with super agent Mino Raiola over a possible deal, even as Spurs grapple with the prospect that star asset Gareth Bale could leave this summer.

However, with Anzhi waving their chequebook, it remains to be seen if Mkhitaryan can be tempted away with the prospect of Champions League football to Dortmund.

Spurs, and Anzhi have both failed to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition, and are set for Europa League action next season with Liverpool not even making the latter.

Dortmund, however, were given a 10-day deadline on Wednesday for the chance to meet Palkin’s €30m valuation, as opposed to their €23m bid.

Mkhitaryan is currently facing a fine from Shakhtar for failing to turn up for pre-season training, amid the initial interest from Liverpool, a club which he is still believed to favour a move to.
