The agent of Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen appear to have gone cold on his client, opening the door to other suitors.

Alderweireld is poised to exit Dutch champions Ajax this summer and has been strongly linked with a number of clubs from England and Germany, with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Leverkusen just some of the names connected with the Belgian.

Of late Leverkusen have been in the driving seat, even holding talks with the player’s representatives over a switch to the BayArena.

But the last week has brought nothing new, with the Germans having bemoaned Ajax’s asking price.

"We have had no contact with Leverkusen for a week", agent Soren Lerby told Kicker.

"Apparently, it is not important for them at this time", he added.

Alderweireld’s contract at Ajax expires next summer and he has so far not put pen to paper on an extension.

The Belgian stopper has repeatedly declared himself ready for the step up to a bigger league.
