A move for Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona to Manchester United could open the door at the Camp Nou for Christian Eriksen to join the Spanish champions, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Manchester United are pushing to take Alcantara to Old Trafford and the odds are at present in favour of the Red Devils, with the Spanish midfielder very much open to continuing his career in the English Premier League.

That could have a knock-on effect on clubs outside the pair, with Eriksen a potential replacement for Alcantara at Barcelona.

Eriksen would be thrilled at the prospect of joining the Blaugrana and would not hesitate to sign on the dotted line. Barcelona have also been provided with good reports on the midfielder by forward Isaac Cuenca, who spent time on loan at Ajax last season, taking a close look at the technically gifted Dane.

Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have been consistently in the running for Eriksen, who has just one year remaining on his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Neither have yet managed to get their hands on the playmaker though and they may have little chance of doing so later in the summer transfer window if Alcantara switches to Old Trafford and Barcelona come calling for Eriksen.

The Denmark international helped Ajax to their third consecutive Eredivisie title last season, impressing throughout the campaign.
