Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that he did not foresee his sacking by the club, and he is still struggling to find the reasons for his dismissal.

The Italian tactician was sacked by the Citizens in May, two days after Manchester City’s surprise defeat to Wigan Athletic in the final of the FA Cup at Wembley.

Former Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini succeeded him at the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Mancini guided the Citizens to their first top flight league title in 44 years, helping them win the Premier League in the 2011/12 season. He also won the FA Cup with Manchester City in 2010/11.

And Mancini believes he deserved more respect from the Manchester outfit.

“I lost the FA Cup final, and it can happen in football. It was a bad day for the whole team. But I did not see myself being sacked", Mancini told Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.

“I never really thought about the rumours that Pellegrini would take over. Now, two months after my firing, I still do not understand the timing of my sacking and the causes.

“I believe that I deserved more respect for what I had done for the club in recent seasons. The club had not won a title in 40 years, and I won the Premier League, FA Cup and the Community Shield trophy.

“In my worst season I lost in the final and finished second in the Premier League.”

Manchester City finished second in the Premier League last season, below rivals Manchester United, who bagged their 20th English league title.

The Citizens, under new manager Pellegrini, start their campaign in the Premier League in the 2013/14 season on 17th August. They host Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium in their season opener.
