Christopher Samba has insisted he did not leave Anzhi Makhachkala for sporting reasons in January, but more to solve a family issue.

The powerful centre-back has returned to Anzhi Makhachkala from English outfit QPR for a fee of £12m, just months after making the reverse journey in January.

Samba was unable to help QPR remain in the Premier League and will now turn his attentions back to playing for the Dagestan giants.

"I left Anzhi in the winter not just for some sporting or club reasons", he told the club's official site.

"I had a little trouble in the family, which had to be settled.

"I left with a heavy heart, I was very sad to leave Anzhi and now to be able to come back and be part of the team, it's great fun.

"I work with people who have a big heart."
