Liverpool have made an offer of £8m for Hellas Verona’s highly-rated young midfielder Jorginho.

The 21-year-old Brazil-born schemer made 41 appearances in Serie B for Verona last season, helping the club to a second-place finish and automatic promotion to Serie A.

Jorginho’s performances at the club did not go unnoticed and AC Milan are firm admirers of his talents.

However, according to Sportitalia’s Alfredo Pedulla, Liverpool have waded into the reckoning with a bid of £8m for the starlet.

Verona are expected to take a decision over Jorginho’s future next week, while Milan are also set to consider whether they will rival Liverpool with their own bid.

Jorginho’s contract at Verona runs until 2016, leaving the newly promoted club very much in the driving seat over his future, and surviving in Serie A next season is a priority; a task which would be made easier by keeping the promising schemer.

Liverpool may have switched their attentions to Jorginho after being priced out of the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is expected to sign for Borussia Dortmund for a fee slightly in excess of €25m, despite there still being some disagreement over the fee between the Ukrainian and German clubs.
