Florentino Perez has put the brakes on Gonzalo Higuain’s proposed move to Arsenal by insisting the Gunners have yet to make an offer for the striker and Real Madrid would like to keep him.

Arsenal have been pushing to sign Higuain and the player’s father, Jorge Higuain, even insisted that permission had been forthcoming to negotiate with Arsene Wenger’s men.

However, Arsenal’s imminent capture has not materialised and new Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to hold talks with Higuain.

Now Perez has cast further doubt over whether the deal will ever be nudged over the line.

"We don’t want Higuain to leave and nobody from Arsenal has come here to make an offer of €27m or any amount", Perez told Univision.

The ball now appears squarely in Arsenal’s court and the Gunners still have negotiating to do to take the Argentina international to the Emirates Stadium.

Higuain has signalled his desire for a switch to pastures new, but Real Madrid remain firmly in the driving seat over his future.
