Norwich are just a step away from making their fourth summer signing as Leroy Fer is in the country for a medical, according to Dutch news outlet Tubantia.

Fer, who has also been linked with Newcastle, had been left out of pre-season training with FC Twente, with reports yesterday suggesting a deal with the Canaries was imminent.

And it is understood Fer is very close to making that a reality, with the 23-year-old expected to be given a five-year deal at Carrow Road.

Twente chairman Joop Munsterman had seen no reason for Fer – and his team-mate Nikolay Mihaylov – to be part of the training process, adding the player was "on the verge of a transfer".

Fer is a product of the famed Feyenoord youth system, and spent four years with their senior side before moving to Twente in 2011.

He lit up Holland’s display at the European Under-21 Championship this summer by bagging two goals in four games, while his scoring tally for Twente stands at 21 in 77 games.

If all goes well, Fer will become Norwich’s third foreign signing for the summer, with the experienced duo of Javier Garrido and Ricky van Wolfswinkel having already arrived from Lazio and Sporting Lisbon, respectively.
