Bayern Munich have emerged as a potential destination for Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE

The classy Spanish schemer has been strongly linked with Manchester United, with his switch to Old Trafford believed to be just a matter of time. Indeed, the Red Devils have stood ready to activate Thiago’s €18m release clause at the Camp Nou and triple the player’s salary.

But the deal has not yet progressed to fruition and Bayern Munich, under former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, could spoil the party.

Thiago is believed to have spoken with Guardiola, and has indicated that he is willing to head to the Allianz Arena.

It has been suggested that Thiago has already signalled his happiness with a deal which could net him €4m per season in Germany.

Guardiola is believed ready to deploy Javi Martinez closer to the Bayern Munich backline, opening up a midfield spot for Thiago, in a sign of how highly he rates his former charge.

It remains to be seen where the Spain Under-21 midfielder will end up, but he has a number of options following his rapid development, including an albeit unlikely stay at Barcelona.
