Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has promised the club’s fans that hard work is being done behind the scenes to bring in new players this summer.

The Reds have already been active in the transfer market, snapping up Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto.

However, Liverpool lost out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund, despite the Armenian having been identified as a priority target, while star striker Luis Suarez has consistently reiterated his desire to leave over the summer.

Rodgers has by no means completed his business and the Northern Irishman has provided an update on his work in the market.

"Our recruitment team are doing a great job behind the scenes in compiling lists of players that we can afford and might be available for us", he told his club’s official site.

"What we’ve done in the early part of the summer is to improve the squad. That’s something I feel we’ve done with the players we’ve brought in.

"Now what’s important over the next three to five weeks is improving the team. That’s something the club is working very hard at.

"I’m sure by the time the end of August comes we’ll be ready and we’ll have a terrific squad ready to challenge."

Liverpool start their pre-season campaign this coming Saturday, with a trip to play Preston North End.
