Ajax coach Frank de Boer has advised Christian Eriksen against moving to Liverpool, as the English club look to step up their interest in the Denmark playmaker.

Liverpool have been linked with Eriksen for much of the summer and, after missing out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund, are looking to take him to Anfield.

But De Boer, who long ago accepted keeping hold of the player might not be possible with just one year left on his contract, feels the 21-year-old would be making a mistake by joining a side which finished seventh in the Premier League last season.

"If they play as they do now, I would not go", De Boer explained to Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.

"The playing style would not suit his own."

However, the Ajax tactician, who himself turned down the chance to speak with Liverpool over the English club’s then-vacant managerial position last summer, insists the decision is squarely Eriksen’s to make.

"But ultimately, it is for Chris himself to decide", he said.

Eriksen has promised only to leave Ajax for the right club and will sign a new deal with the Eredivisie champions if he does not receive the offer he wants, ruling out leaving on a free transfer in 2014.

The talented playmaker was central to Ajax’s title success last season.
