Liverpool appear to be taking concrete steps for life without Luis Suarez by targeting another goalscorer, with their latest move being to request information about the availability of Alessandro Matri.

The Juventus striker was the subject of an enquiry earlier today from the Reds, according to Sky Italia.

Liverpool were keen to find out Matri’s transfer status this summer, ahead of a possible swoop for the 28-year-old.

Matri was a fixture with Juventus last season, helping the Bianconeri to their second consecutive Serie A title.

The forward made 35 appearances for Antonio Conte’s men, finding the back of the net on ten occasions.

Matri, who has won five caps for Italy, moved to Juventus from fellow Italian side Cagliari in 2011.

The striker is under contract in Turin until 2017.

However, with Juventus having signed both Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente this summer, his chances could be somewhat more limited in the upcoming campaign.
