Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is looking forward to playing under new manager Carlo Ancelotti and believes the Italian’s appointment is a step forward for the capital club.

54-year-old Ancelotti guided Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title last season before taking charge of the Spanish side, replacing former Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho, who took over the reins of his former employers Chelsea.



Khedira, who is proud to be a Real Madrid player, is excited to play under Ancelotti and feels it is a fresh beginning for the club, as well as his career.

He told Die Welt: "It is the start of a new chapter for Madrid and at the same time for my career.

"A new coach is always associated with a new beginning. There are new ideas, a different playing philosophy.

"I feel greatly excited, I am still very proud to play for Real Madrid.

"Whoever plays at this club, plays for titles, I’m sure that with the work of Carlo Ancelotti we will take another step forward."

The Germany international said that, with the arrival of Ancelotti, the club have a great coach as the former PSG boss has been successful with all the sides he has managed.

“Wherever he has worked, he has been successful.

“His teams have always played well. We have an experienced coach, a great personality who puts emphasis on tactics and discipline.”

The 26-year-old also had kind words for his former manager Mourinho, labelling him as a great coach and a great person and thanked the Portuguese for signing him from Bundesliga club Stuttgart.

"We failed ourselves during his time. I have great respect for him.

“For me, he is still a great coach and person.

"Mourinho gave me a chance three years ago to play in La Liga.”

On asked about the renewal of his present contract, the 26-year-old replied: "Talks are under way to renew. But for now there is nothing concrete."
