AS Roma defender Marquinhos is soon to become the subject of a three-way transfer battle, with his agent revealing that Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain had all submitted bids.

Until now, Barcelona and PSG were the two clubs known to be vying for Marquinhos’ signature, with the Ligue 1 side valuing him as a priority.

The 19-year-old put in a decent shift this season to clock 26 Serie A appearances and even secured a berth in the Coppa Italia final against Lazio, which Roma lost, and that has seen Manchester United join the race.

The Red Devils are understood to be keen for a backup option in central defence, given the injury-prone duo of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

And Marquinhos’ agent Roberto Calenda has revealed his client is becoming a wanted man, telling Sky Italia: "Roma have told us there is the possibility of a sale, and we respect their decision.

"There are bids from PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, respectively, and it is possible that the club will accept one of these."

It had emerged yesterday that PSG had trumped Barcelona’s €30m bid by an extra €5m, while it is not yet known how much Manchester United are willing to front up.
