AC Milan striker Robinho has extended his contract with the Italian giants by two further years, the Rossoneri have confirmed.

The 29-year-old, whose current contract was due to expire in 2014, will now remain with the Serie A outfit until 2016.

A statement on the club’s official site read: "AC Milan announce that Robinho has extended his contract to 30th June, 2016."

The striker had been linked with a move to his boyhood club Santos this summer, but it collapsed as the Brazilian club lacked the necessary funds for the transfer.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani met with the player’s representatives yesterday afternoon and denied any suggestion that Robinho could leave Milan this summer.

"We are talking with Robinho about a contract renewal", he said.

Shortly afterwards Robinho penned his signature on the new contract.

The Brazilian has appeared in 85 league matches for Milan, netting 22 times, since his move to the club in 2010 from Manchester City.

He has also played for Spanish giants Real Madrid in Europe and has 90 international caps with 26 goals to his name.
