Paris Saint-Germain head coach Laurent Blanc has played down talk that his club are pondering a move for Manchester United’s unsettled striker Wayne Rooney, but has admitted admiration for the England international.

Rooney is currently the subject of much-heated speculation, with the player was believed to be angered by remarks from new manager David Moyes that his role at Old Trafford for the upcoming season was more as a back-up than a main man.

Smelling blood, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has moved in and triggered the start of mind games by publicly admitting his transfer plans for this window involve Rooney and no one else.

Of course, many others have been linked with holding an interest for Rooney in the past months, one of them being the defending Ligue 1 champions.

But in a move to quell the reports, Blanc has hinted that signing Rooney was not on the plotting table in the administrative offices of the Parc des Princes, with the club well-compensated in that part of the pitch.

"To be honest, PSG is well provided for in the attacking sector, and Rooney’s preferred position is to be in the heart of attack", Blanc was quoted as saying by Le 10 Sport.

Despite that, Blanc could not help admit his admiration for the striker, saying: "Rooney is a magnificent player."
