Newcastle United are plotting a move for Evian forward Saber Khelifa as they seek to increase their attacking options in time for the forthcoming campaign.

The Magpies lost Demba Ba to Chelsea in January and with the Senegalese’s goals having proved hard to replace, along with fellow striker Papiss Cisse currently refusing to wear a shirt bearing the name of the club’s new sponsors, Newcastle are working overtime to bring in new forward threats.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is keen on Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis, but according to Eurosport, Khelifa has also caught the manager’s eye.

The English side are now pondering making a bid for the 26-year-old and have informed Evian of their interest.

Khelifa is keen to sign for fellow French club Montpellier, but Evian may spy a chance to bag a larger fee by selling the Tunisia international to Newcastle.

Evian are thought to be looking for around €5m for the striker.

Khelifa was signed by Evian from Tunisian club Esperance in 2011.
