The agent of Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld believes that there is plenty of time for his client to move in the current transfer window and has pointed to the example of Jan Vertonghen last summer as proof.

Alderweireld has just one year remaining on his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA and is looking to head to a bigger club in a bigger league.

Bayer Leverkusen made an approach, but could agree neither a fee with Ajax nor personal terms with the Belgium international.

More recently Norwich City had a bid accepted by Ajax, of around €8m, but Alderweireld vetoed the switch.

With Liverpool consistently linked with the defender, it is believed the 24-year-old has his sights set on larger arenas than Carrow Road.

And his agent Soren Lerby is not sweating just yet, especially when remembering that another former Ajax centre-back made his own move to England not exactly at the start of the summer.

"It is still early", Lerby was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

"Last year Jan Vertonghen also went away only in mid-August [transfer was July, ed.]."
