Feyenoord look set to step up their interest in out-of-favour Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi after Arsene Wenger hinted at keeping hold of Japanese wide-man Ryo Miyaichi and the Eredivisie side’s pursuit cooled.

The Dutch club’s technical director Martin van Geel has been keen on agreeing a loan deal for Miyaichi, while Assaidi is also on Feyenoord’s shortlist of potential reinforcements.

Van Geel had been confident of signing Miyaichi, who also enjoyed a loan spell with Feyenoord in 2011, however the cards appear to be stacking towards an extended stay in England for the 20-year-old.

Wenger entrusted Miyaichi with a spot in the Arsenal starting line-up against Nagoya Grampus yesterday and the Japanese starlet did not disappoint, looking lively throughout and scoring a goal in the Gunners’ 3-1 win.

Post-match Wenger told his club’s official site that: "His pace, his mobility and his movement off the ball [are qualities].

"I like players who can move when others have the ball. There is also his attitude, commitment and desire."

And, the Frenchman added: "That is why I decided to keep him."

Feyenoord are expected to concentrate their firepower on securing former Heerenveen winger Assaidi, a man in their viewfinder even before Wenger’s comments.

The Moroccan moved to Liverpool last summer but has struggled to break through at the English club and Feyenoord are eyeing a loan move for the 24-year-old, who is open to just such a switch.
