Former Benfica star Jose Augusto is seeing a bit of his old team-mate Eusebio in the latest player to grace the club’s ranks, as Lazar Markovic begins his five-year spell.

The fact that Markovic is a Serbia international makes little difference for Augusto, who has been very impressed by the 19-year-old forward.

Markovic arrives in Portugal from FK Partizan where he spent all his youth days, and Augusto is backing him to deliver big things with the Portuguese giants.

"I had been very impressed after his goal in the first game", Augusto, who spent 10 years with Benfica, told Record. "His execution left me very impressed.

"He reminded me a lot of Eusebio. When [Eusebio] arrived at Benfica, he had precisely the same behaviour.

"[Markovic] comes from a school, which is one of the best in the world. His unpredictability before the opponent and creating sudden movements have raised Eusebio in my imagination."

Markovic has already made his Serbia debut, and has seven caps to his name, and for Augusto, both countries share a philosophy that extends beyond the footballing pitch.

"[Serbs] have all the conditions to triumph", Augusto added. "Culturally they are like us. They have a character based on the community."
