Napoli coach Rafael Benitez is once again looking at his former club Liverpool for fresh recruits, with Martin Skrtel on the Serie A outfit’s radar, according to Tutto Mercato.

Having secured Pepe Reina from the Reds on loan, it is understood Benitez would like to rekindle his interest in the Slovakian centre-back.

Earlier in the summer, Napoli had been linked with a move for Skrtel, the player brought to Liverpool by Benitez himself.

However, Skrtel’s agent had then dismissed the speculation somewhat by stating that there had been "no contact between the two clubs".

While Benitez is understood to be very keen on bringing another striker in, he also wants Napoli to have at least two players for every position, with defence an area of concern as well.

So far, the only defender signed permanently has been Raul Albiol from Real Madrid, and Skrtel could emerge as another choice having enjoyed a good relationship with his former boss.

His starting role at Liverpool diminished towards the end of last season, and the Slovakian had revealed he was considering an exit.

He joined Liverpool in 2008 under Benitez and has so far notched 206 games for the Reds and even got on the scoresheet in the 2012 League Cup victory over Cardiff City.
