West Ham are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign defender Khalid Boulahrouz, with the 31-year-old keen on a switch to Upton Park.

Boulahrouz currently turns out in Portugal for Sporting Lisbon, however the capital club, keen to slash their wage bill, are willing to allow the Dutchman to exit this summer.



The defender is now interesting West Ham who, according to France Football, are willing to hand the player a two-year contract, with the option of a further year, to tempt him to link up with Sam Allardyce’s men.

Boulahrouz is no stranger to English football, having turned out for Chelsea in the 2006/07 campaign after arriving at Stamford Bridge from Hamburg.

The defender moved on, initially on loan, after just one year, joining Sevilla before landing at Stuttgart permanently.

Boulahrouz then signed for Sporting Lisbon last summer, penning a two-year deal.

The RKC Waalwijk product has won 35 caps for Holland at international level.
