PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands has thrown his hands up in frustration at the brick wall he faces over Ola Toivonen’s move to Norwich City.

The Canaries had been in constant talks with PSV to take the striker over to England, but Toivonen had seemingly rejected the offer in hopes of attracting a bigger club.

The 27-year-old slightly backtracked yesterday by saying he had never ruled out Norwich as a destination, as his future at PSV is threatened.

Toivonen could be relegated to the reserve squad, with some sources claiming he already has been, and Brands is feeling the pangs of helplessness.

"I do not have any influence on things", he told De Telegraaf. "We have a deal with Norwich, but if Toivonen refuses to go there, we might as well throw that paper in the trash."

PSV coach Philip Cocu had yesterday responded, in a way, to Toivonen’s comments, saying that if the striker did not leave this summer, a new contract was a possibility.

It remains to be seen if Toivonen will start toeing the line that is expected of him, while earlier times in the summer had seen interest from Everton and West Brom doing the rounds as well.

Toivonen is not short of talent, having scored 76 goals in his 176 games for PSV after moving over from his native Sweden in early 2009.

His international career had blossomed alongside that at PSV, and he has racked up 30 caps with six goals for Sweden.
