Liverpool have made an offer for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to reports in Spain.

The 24-year-old has a buy-out clause of €25m in his contract at the Vicente Calderon and Liverpool are believed to have met this figure.

The ball will now be squarely in the Brazilian’s court to decide over a switch to Anfield.

Atletico Madrid are believed to be ready not to put up a fight over Costa’s potential departure given the summer arrivals of David Villa from Barcelona and Leo Baptistao from Rayo Vallecano.

The striker, who can also operate as a winger, made the move to Europe in 2006 by joining Portuguese side Braga.

He landed with Atletico Madrid in 2007 and has endured a nomadic existence, with loan spells back at Braga, at Celta Vigo and Albacete.

Los Rojiblancos sold Costa outright to Valladolid in 2009, but bought him back just a year later.

He was a regular in La Liga with Diego Simeone’s men last season, featuring in 31 league games, but finding the back of the net only ten times.
