Serie A giants AC Milan are believed to be close to sealing a move for CSKA Moscow’s Keisuke Honda which will see the Japanese icon move to the San Siro this summer.

Milan have long been in talks with Honda about the player’s possible move to Italy with his contract with CSKA Moscow set to expire in December.

The perennial Serie A challengers were close to sealing a transfer for Honda via the Bosman ruling on January, but the Rossoneri decided Honda’s arrival could not wait until then.

The Moscow club, however, pledged they will not let go Honda cheaply. Indeed, according to Russian daily Izvestia, the Premier League giants want €5m for Honda’s immediate transfer. Milan, for their part, are only willing to part ways with €3m.

But now it appears both clubs were willing to meet half way and are set to ratify their negotiations in paper soon, with Honda receiving a wage cut from €2.5m to €1.8m annually.

"I do not deny that I want to pursue a career elsewhere. I always want to grow as a professional, and for this I need to realise my dream to play for the world’s top clubs", Honda said.

"At CSKA I had a few good years, but now everything leads to the fact that I have to leave Moscow", the Japanese footballer added.
