Liverpool right-back Martin Kelly is happy to be back playing again for the Reds.

The 23-year-old played the second half of Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Valerenga yesterday and even marked his return with a fine goal.

The defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the 2012/13 season while playing against Manchester United last September.

However, Kelly was back in action after 11 months last night and wants more playing time under his belt on his way to attaining full fitness.

"I'm made up to be playing again", he told the club’s official site.

"45 minutes felt like I was playing for a day, but I think that's the first 45 minutes in 11 months. You can train as much as you want but you can't replicate games.

"For me to get games is vital in my progression now. I'm made up that it's healed and feels strong and fit enough. I just need to push on with the ball and keep developing.”

Kelly is a product of Liverpool’s youth set-up and has made more than 50 appearances for the Merseyside club.

He has a single senior cap for England to his name and has represented the nation at various youth levels.

His present contract with Liverpool will see him at the club until 2017.
