Premier League stalwart John Arne Riise could be on his way out to Werder Bremen, according to Sky Deutschland, as the Norwegian revealed an exit looked certain.

Riise spent seven years with Liverpool between 2001 and 2008 – that included a Champions League win – and after a three-year spell at Roma returned to England with Fulham.

Two seasons with the Cottagers have seen him turn out 76 times in total, but the 32-year-old, who retired from international football this summer, yesterday announced a change was in the offing.

"Yes, it looks like I will part with Fulham this summer", Riise, who also boasts Monaco as a club he has played for, told Norwegian outlet Nettavisen.

"Fortunately, I have an agreement with Fulham that there will not be a transfer fee so we'll see what happens in this transfer window."

While reports suggest talks have already begun between Fulham and Bremen, speculation in Norway has suggested there may be other possible destinations.

A return to Roma, where he played 136 games, has been mooted, as has Major League Soccer in the United States, who currently only have one other Norwegian in Jan Gunnar Solli.

Norway's most-capped national footballer Riise will be joined by compatriot Morten Gamst Pedersen on the list of departures, as the latter is understood to be free to leave Blackburn Rovers.
