La Liga title holders Barcelona have now set their sights on Portugal in their quest to find a centre-back, with FC Porto's Nicolas Otamendi the next transfer target.

As it stands, the 2009 sextuple winners are finding it difficult to sign a new defender. Indeed, they appear to be on the losing end of the battle to prise away Chelsea's David Luiz from manager Jose Mourinho's hands.

And with their bid to sign Liverpool's Danish defender Daniel Agger on the verge of suffering the same fate, it has become clear that Barcelona will not be able to find the defender they are looking for in England.

And true enough, according to Spanish daily Marca, Barcelona representatives have already been sent to the Estadio do Dragao to catch a glimpse of Argentine defender Otamendi.

The 25-year-old made a total 39 appearances overall last term and helped Porto to win the Portuguese title.

Otamendi's current contract with Porto is due to see him remain with the club until 2015.
