AC Milan and Liverpool are shaping up to do battle for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho.

PSG coach Laurent Blanc has vowed to work with Sakho to "find the best solution" to the player's desire for first team football, a desire which is leading the Frenchman towards the Parc des Princes exit door.

Sakho is concerned about the effect a season of warming the bench in the French capital will have on his hopes of grabbing a plane ticket to the 2014 World Cup with Didier Deschamps' men.

And for that reason, the boyhood PSG fan is prepared to leave the Ligue 1 champions.

AC Milan and Liverpool's interest in Sakho is well documented, with the player admitting it flatters him.

Now, according to Corriere dello Sport, the pair are poised to go head-to-head to sign the defender.

Any move for Sakho is likely to be on a loan basis with a view to a permanent capture. PSG however want the player to extend his contract, which expires in 2014, as the price for giving their consent to the deal.
