Yohann Gourcuff has rejected an offer to extend his contract at Lyon, with an eye on an exit before the summer transfer window slams firmly shut.

The France midfielder joined Lyon in the summer of 2010, making a big money €22m switch from fellow Ligue 1 side Bordeaux and penning a five-year contract.

His salary is believed to have caused some concern at the Stade Gerland of late and, according to Telefoot, he has turned down an offer to sign a fresh deal, with an eye on clubs interested in his signature.

Arsenal, a side Gourcuff has indicated he will take a pay cut to join, and Liverpool, represent the interested parties from England.

In France, Lorient and Rennes are monitoring the former AC Milan man's situation, while in Spain, Valencia are attentive.

Gourcuff has wasted no time making a positive impression at the start of the new Ligue 1 season, scoring two goals and providing two assists against Nice and Sochaux respectively.

The 27-year-old saw himself labelled the "new Zinedine Zidane" for his silky skills at Bordeaux between 2008 and 2010. However, he has struggled to live up to the burden of expectation for most of his spell at Lyon.

Of late though, Gourcuff's form has picked up.
