Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has heaped praise on his team-mate Simon Mignolet after the custodian’s dramatic double save from the spot earned the Reds three points against Stoke on Saturday.

The 23-year-old believes that Mignolet is a great signing for the Merseyside club and has backed the goalkeeper to emulate Pepe Reina’s success at Liverpool.

"He [Mignolet] will just get stronger and stronger and he will be fantastic for Liverpool Football Club”, Henderson explained to his club’s official site.

"To save the penalty and then the follow-up as well was magnificent. It was a big moment and it will do him the world of good.

"It is a good way to announce yourself at Liverpool. Pepe Reina was unbelievable during his time here but Simon has come in and I think he will be a really good signing for us."

The midfielder furthermore added that on a personal level he will fight to keep his place in the Reds’ starting line-up.

"It is always nice to play. We are a squad and I know there will be times when other people come in. I just have to keep fighting for my place and hopefully stay in the team.”

Henderson put in an impressive display against Stoke and was unlucky to not find his name on the scoresheet as two of his efforts ricocheted off the post.
