Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted he will only move to sign the players he considers to be "right" this summer, not giving in to pressure to spend.

The Gunners are thought to have placed a £70m transfer kitty in front of the frugal Frenchman, with all the noises from the London giants indicating a big spending spree to push the club back towards competing for the title was in the offing.

But the only arrivals blowing through the Emirates Stadium have been young unknown French striker Yaya Sanogo and a large pile of tumbleweed.

And the fans are restless – but Wenger will not do what does not feel right.

"As always, we do what we think is right", he told his club's official site.

"When we think we have the right players, we do it."

The Frenchman also asked for the club's fans to understand that the Gunners already boast some exceptionally gifted players, and have had stars return from injury, rather than concentrating on potential transfers.

"We were for years restricted and we competed with exceptional quality.

"This year we did not lose any players – we just lost two players with injury – but we will try to strengthen the squad and make the right decisions until the end."

Arsenal are in action this evening as they face Fenerbahce in the first leg of their Champions League playoff round tie.
