Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has confirmed that defender Mamadou Sakho is no longer at the club and has wished him well.

Sakho is poised to be confirmed as a Liverpool player, with the Reds having agreed a fee with PSG and put the France international centre-back through his medical paces.

Blanc had wanted to keep hold of Sakho but, having opted to make former Chelsea defender Alex and ex-AC Milan stopper Thiago Silva his centre-back partnership, could not provide the first team football the 23-year-old feels he needs.

Indeed, Sakho wants regular minutes on the pitch this season in order to make sure of his spot in Didier Deschamps' France squad at the 2014 World Cup.

And Blanc has bid Sakho farewell from his boyhood club.

"Sahko isn't at PSG anymore. He was developed here, he lived here, he was the emblem of the club", Blanc told reporters after his side's 2-0 win over Guingamp.

"Yes, I wanted to continue working with him, but he expressed his desire to leave the club.

"I wish him good luck."

Sakho rose through the youth ranks at the Parc des Princes, but found himself with fierce competition following the club's recent spending sprees under their Qatari owners.
