Tottenham Hotspur are moving to pull off a late, late swoop, with a £7m offer having been made to Catania for defender Nicolas Spolli.

The White Hart Lane outfit, who have topped the spending table in the English Premier League this summer, are keen to sign the 30-year-old before the transfer window closes.

According to Sky Italia, Spurs have been in contact with the player to sound him out over a move to England and could continue their spending spree by adding Spolli to their ranks.

The Argentine defender was snapped up by Catania from Newell's Old Boys in 2009 and he has established himself as a regular fixture at the Serie A side.

Spurs will be racing against the clock to sign Spolli, with the window slamming shut in a matter of hours.

Last season Spolli managed 29 appearances in Serie A for Catania, and his departure would come as a blow to coach Rolando Maran.
