The transfer window might have just closed, but that does not mean Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is taking his foot off the gas when it comes to checking up on potential additions.

Indeed, the Portuguese tactician has shunned the chance to take a few days off or work on new coaching plans during the international break to schedule a trip to Belgrade.

According to Calcio Mercato, Mourinho is heading to the Serbian capital on Friday to take in Serbia vs Croatia.

The object of Mourinho's interest is none other than a former Chelsea player in the shape of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The player currently turns out for Benfica, the side he joined from Chelsea as part of the deal which took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge in January 2011.

Matic has progressed quickly at the Estadio da Luz since signing for the Portuguese giants and had been linked with Chelsea earlier this summer.

The transfer talk even reached Matic himself, with the Serbian admitting that if Mourinho picked up the phone to call him back to Stamford Bridge he would find it difficult to resist.

Benfica breathed a sigh of relief as Chelsea kept their powder dry on Matic, but Mourinho has not lost sight of the midfielder.
