Roma are ready to launch a swoop for wantaway Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis in the January transfer window.

Gomis, who came very close to joining Newcastle in the summer window, recently revealed he is opposed to extending his contract at Les Gones, which is due to expire in 2014.

Lyon will now look to offload the Frenchman in January in an attempt to realise some sort of fee for the striker.

Newcastle could return for the 28-year-old but, according to Le 10 Sport, Roma are already eyeing a swoop.

Indeed, Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini is keen on Gomis and feels he would bolster coach Rudi Garcia's options for a cut-price amount.

Gomis joined Lyon in 2009 but was sidelined by the club this summer, as they sought to sell him.

He was not prepared to take a wage cut to join Newcastle though, despite the English Premier League side agreeing a fee with Lyon and has since been reintegrated into Remi Garde's first team squad.
